Sincerity

Sincerity is the virtue of one who speaks truly about his or her own feelings, thoughts, desires.
Sincere expression carries risks to the speaker, since the ordinary screens used in everyday life are opened to the outside world. At the same time, we expect our friends, our lovers, our leaders "to be sincere".

Happy birthday Lorraine Kelly 30/11/2008

Lorraine Kelly (Presenter of LK Today)
Born: November 30, 1959 (1959-11-30) (age 48)
East Kilbride, Scotland
Occupation: Television presenter and journalist
Spouse: Steve Smith
Children: Rosie
Lorraine Kelly (born November 30, 1959 in East Kilbride) is a Scottish television presenter and journalist best known as a presenter for GMTV, the ITV morning television station. She currently resides in Blairgowrie, Perthshire. Kelly's husband is Dundonian, and this has led to a misconception that she is too. However, she spends time at a home in Blairgowrie and is an avid supporter of Dundee United.

Early life
Kelly's father John worked as a television service engineer. She attended Claremont High School in East Kilbride. She turned down a university place to read English and Russian in favour of a job on the East Kilbride News which was her local newspaper and then joined BBC Scotland as a researcher in 1983. She moved to TV-am as an on-screen reporter covering Scottish news in 1984.

Career
In July 1989, she presented TV-am's Summer Sunday programme with chief reporter Geoff Meade, and in February 1990 she became a main presenter of Good Morning Britain alongside Mike Morris.

In April 1991, she was awarded the TRIC Diamond Jubilee Award for New Talent of the Year. She helped launch GMTV in January 1993, and presented a range of programmes, including the main breakfast show with Eamonn Holmes. She presented Liquid Eurovision and became the national spokeswoman for the United Kingdom during the collation of votes at the Eurovision Song Contest, in both 2003 and 2004, replacing the long-serving Colin Berry.

She writes weekly columns for The Sun and The Sunday Post. Kelly is also an avid Dundee United F.C. supporter and has been in attendance at matches. Between 2004 and 2007, she served a period as Rector of the University of Dundee. She currently resides near Dundee with her family when she is not working in London. She also has a home in Berkshire.

She has made several notable appearances on Have I Got News For You? and has presented it once herself. She also claims to have an in-built "bullshit detector". She also made a cameo appearance in the BBC Scotland soap opera, River City.

She currently presents her show LK Today which airs Monday to Thursday at 08:40 on GMTV, since 1994. From 2003, she co-presented This Morning with Phillip Schofield, on Mondays and Fridays, to allow Fern Britton to spend more time with her family, but she left in March 2006.

Kelly acted as the guest host for two shows in 2006. Firstly for an episode in the second series of The Friday Night Project for Channel 4 in January and then later, on 25 October for The Paul O'Grady Show. She did so again for Paul O'Grady on 30 November 2006, her 47th birthday and owing to sheer popularity, yet again on 7 November 2007 and more recently on 23 April.

Kelly also hosted the 9th annual Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Awards on Thursday November 30, 2006 for STV.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Kelly has been banned from appearing in an advertising campaign for ASDA because her boss, GMTV's managing director Clive Couch, feared that such a move would lead to more bad publicity for GMTV, which was fined £2 million by broadcasting regulator Ofcom in September for conning viewers with its premium-rate phone lines.

Kelly filmed an ITV documentary programme Secrets Revealed - DNA Stories in 2006, made by SMG Productions, although to date, the show has yet to be broadcast.

During a GMTV Studio tour, she admitted she likes to eat instant porridge oats for her breakfast. In a survey Kelly was voted the celebrity most people would like to buy a car from.

She has claimed that single-faith schools are a cause of sectarianism in Scotland.

Personal life
She is married to Steve Smith, then cameraman when she was covering Scotland for TV-am in 1985. They have a daughter, Rosie, who was born in June 1994. Lorraine returned from maternity leave in late 1994 to present her own show, Nine O'Clock Live, which was later retitled Lorraine Live and then, at the start of 2000, LK Today.

Lorraine Kelly's Grand-Parents are from the South Derry town of Draperstown.

On 5 September 2006, on GMTV, she examined her own family tree.

Kelly is a celebrity patron of the Association for International Cancer Research.

On June 20, 2008 it was announced that she was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Dundee, where she was once rector.

Sen McCain's 'Thank You' message

Remarks from Senator John McCain

November 4, 2008
Thank you. Thank you, my friends. Thank you for coming here on this beautiful Arizona evening.

My friends, we have -- we have come to the end of a long journey. The American people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly. A little while ago, I had the honor of calling Senator Barack Obama to congratulate him on being elected the next president of the country that we both love.

In a contest as long and difficult as this campaign has been, his success alone commands my respect for his ability and perseverance. But that he managed to do so by inspiring the hopes of so many millions of Americans who had once wrongly believed that they had little at stake or little influence in the election of an American president is something I deeply admire and commend him for achieving.

This is an historic election, and I recognize the special significance it has for African-Americans and for the special pride that must be theirs tonight.

I've always believed that America offers opportunities to all who have the industry and will to seize it. Senator Obama believes that, too. But we both recognize that though we have come a long way from the old injustices that once stained our nation's reputation and denied some Americans the full blessings of American citizenship, the memory of them still had the power to wound.

A century ago, President Theodore Roosevelt's invitation of Booker T. Washington to dine at the White House was taken as an outrage in many quarters. America today is a world away from the cruel and prideful bigotry of that time. There is no better evidence of this than the election of an African American to the presidency of the United States. Let there be no reason now for any American to fail to cherish their citizenship in this, the greatest nation on Earth.

Senator Obama has achieved a great thing for himself and for his country. I applaud him for it, and offer in my sincere sympathy that his beloved grandmother did not live to see this day, though our faith assures us she is at rest in the presence of her creator and so very proud of the good man she helped raise.

Senator Obama and I have had and argued our differences, and he has prevailed. No doubt many of those differences remain. These are difficult times for our country, and I pledge to him tonight to do all in my power to help him lead us through the many challenges we face.

I urge all Americans who supported me to join me in not just congratulating him, but offering our next president our good will and earnest effort to find ways to come together, to find the necessary compromises, to bridge our differences, and help restore our prosperity, defend our security in a dangerous world, and leave our children and grandchildren a stronger, better country than we inherited.

Whatever our differences, we are fellow Americans. And please believe me when I say no association has ever meant more to me than that.

It is natural tonight to feel some disappointment, but tomorrow we must move beyond it and work together to get our country moving again. We fought as hard as we could.

And though we fell short, the failure is mine, not yours.

I am so deeply grateful to all of you for the great honor of your support and for all you have done for me. I wish the outcome had been different, my friends. The road was a difficult one from the outset. But your support and friendship never wavered. I cannot adequately express how deeply indebted I am to you.

I am especially grateful to my wife, Cindy, my children, my dear mother and all my family and to the many old and dear friends who have stood by my side through the many ups and downs of this long campaign. I have always been a fortunate man, and never more so for the love and encouragement you have given me.

You know, campaigns are often harder on a candidate's family than on the candidate, and that's been true in this campaign. All I can offer in compensation is my love and gratitude, and the promise of more peaceful years ahead.

I am also, of course, very thankful to Governor Sarah Palin, one of the best campaigners I have ever seen and an impressive new voice in our party for reform and the principles that have always been our greatest strength. Her husband Todd and their five beautiful children with their tireless dedication to our cause, and the courage and grace they showed in the rough-and-tumble of a presidential campaign. We can all look forward with great interest to her future service to Alaska, the Republican Party and our country.

To all my campaign comrades, from Rick Davis and Steve Schmidt and Mark Salter, to every last volunteer who fought so hard and valiantly month after month in what at times seemed to be the most challenged campaign in modern times, thank you so much. A lost election will never mean more to me than the privilege of your faith and friendship.

I don't know what more we could have done to try to win this election. I'll leave that to others to determine. Every candidate makes mistakes, and I'm sure I made my share of them. But I won't spend a moment of the future regretting what might have been.

This campaign was and will remain the great honor of my life. And my heart is filled with nothing but gratitude for the experience and to the American people for giving me a fair hearing before deciding that Senator Obama and my old friend Senator Joe Biden should have the honor of leading us for the next four years.

I would not be an American worthy of the name, should I regret a fate that has allowed me the extraordinary privilege of serving this country for a half a century. Today, I was a candidate for the highest office in the country I love so much. And tonight, I remain her servant. That is blessing enough for anyone and I thank the people of Arizona for it.

Tonight, more than any night, I hold in my heart nothing but love for this country and for all its citizens, whether they supported me or Senator Obama, I wish Godspeed to the man who was my former opponent and will be my president.

And I call on all Americans, as I have often in this campaign, to not despair of our present difficulties but to believe always in the promise and greatness of America, because nothing is inevitable here.

Americans never quit. We never surrender. We never hide from history, we make history.

Thank you, and God bless you, and God bless America. Thank you all very much. 9(source: www.mccainpalin.com)

Mramba, Yona wadaiwa kuathirika kisaikolojia

Ajali zaua 25 papo hapo
*Zahusisha mabasi ya Zuberi, Sai Baba na Fuso
*Abiria 84 wajeruhiwa, 50 walazwa Dom, Singida

Hata hivyo, Bw. Kone alisema tayari ameagiza tingatinga kutoka kampuni ya kichina ya CGC iliyoko Isuna kwenda Sekenke kusaidia kuligeuza basi hilo ili kuopoa miili zaidi iliyokandamizwa kwenye korongo hilo.

Bw.

Health: Diabetes

Diabetes mellitus is a condition where the amount of glucose in the blood is too high because the body cannot use it properly. Glucose comes from the digestion of carbohydrate containing food and drinks and is also produced by the liver. Carbohydrate comes from many different sources including starchy foods such as bread, potatoes and chapattis, fruit, dairy products, sugar and other sweet foods.

Insulin is vital for life. It is a hormone produced by the pancreas and helps the glucose to enter the cells where it is used as fuel for energy so we can work, play and generally live our lives.

Diabetes types
There are two main types of diabetes. These are:

Type 1 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes
Type 1
Type 1 diabetes develops if the body is unable to produce any insulin. This type of diabetes usually appears before the age of 40. Type 1 diabetes is the least common of the two main types and accounts for between 5 – 15% of all people with diabetes.

Type 2
Type 2 diabetes develops when the body can still make some insulin, but not enough, or when the insulin that is produced does not work properly (known as insulin resistance). In most cases this is linked with being overweight. This type of diabetes usually appears in people over the age of 40, though in South Asian and African-Caribbean people often appears after the age of 25. However, recently, more children are being diagnosed with the condition, some as young as seven. Type 2 diabetes is the most common of the two main types and accounts for between 85 - 95% of all people with diabetes.

There are currently over 2.5 million people with diabetes in the UK and there are more than half a million people with diabetes who have the condition and don’t know it. (source: www.diabetes.org)

Digital Versatile Discs players: The basics

DVD player Buyer's Guide
Buyers guides providing up-to-date information on the latest products and technologies. Each buyers guide contains comprehensive impartial advice for consumers. Read our guides to help your decision making and to ensure you choose the best product to meet your needs. Individual guides are thoroughly researched and written by an independent expert.

Since they first went on sale in 1997, DVD Players have largely replaced the video cassette recorder. The reason's simple. Even the cheapest DVD Players give better picture and sound quality and can process information more efficiently than a VCR. You will get a better home entertainment experience with a DVD Player.

A DVD looks like a CD but can hold both audio and video data. It does this in a compressed format (MPEG-2) that the DVD Player then decodes to turn into a video signal. The greater storage capacity of a DVD means that as well as the audio data you would get on a CD, you also get a full-length movie and extra data like subtitles, index information and special features on the one disc.

Choosing a DVD player Key features of DVD players Connections Related products
Choosing a DVD player
While DVD players may have been around for less than a decade, the rapid change in the market is similar to other electrical consumer goods. Features that existed on the most expensive models alone are now found almost across the range. Meanwhile, new technological improvements aimed at exploiting the capabilities of digital high-definition TVs are being introduced at the top end. To help you make the right choice of DVD player we have outlined what you can expect to find on basic, advanced and expert models.

Beginner
Cheap DVDs
Choose a basic player if you just want to rent or buy pre-recorded DVDs and play them back using a player and an existing analogue TV set. With any basic player, you'll get excellent picture quality, CD-quality sound and the ability to select scenes, see special features, and enjoy any added features included on the disc. And there will be no fading of picture or sound quality that repeated playing of a videotape is likely to produce. If you are not going to use the player as part of your sound system than a single disc player is cheaper and will take up less room. Basic players will have a remote control and will connect easily to your TV. They will also be able to read multiple formats including, among others, CD audio and MP3 files.

Intermediate
Choose a mid-range player if you want to use your DVD Player with an LCD, Plasma or Widescreen TV and your current sound system to take full advantage of the better sound quality. Advanced players will have more features like multi-disc play and more sophisticated connections to your TV and sound system that mean that you can use them as replacements for sound systems. These players are more likely to be able to handle DVDs recorded in other formats, too, so will be useful for playing material recorded by friends and family, for example, as well as commercial offerings.

Advanced
Finally, choose an expert level player if you want to use the player as part of a complete system. For an enhanced viewing and listening experience that includes audio as well as video or if you think that you will be upgrading your television to high-definition technology this option is also for you. These players can be used as part of a home cinema set-up and can include progressive scan technology and component video connections to give extremely sharp and flicker free pictures. This will mean more equipment than just a player and a TV, notably speakers, but on the plus side you will experience a DVD as shoulf be experienced.

Key features of DVD Players
Assuming that the content is on the disc, basic DVD Players offer language choice, special effects, parental lock, programmability, digital audio output, support for multi-angle movies and the playing of audio CDs. The feature set increases with more expensive players. Simply put, the more you spend on a player, the more formats you will be able to play and the picture and sound quality will be better.

Multi-region players: Film studios, keen to protect release dates, price differentials and the amount of information given in certain markets, originally imposed a constraint on DVD Players by restricting which countries DVDs play in. All pre-recorded DVDs have one of six regional codes and region-locked DVD Players can only play DVDs from the same region. So, for example, a Region 1 player (USA and Canada) can only play Region 1 films. Multi-regional players can play DVDs from any region allowing for the widest choice of DVDs.

Zone Region converter
Zone 1 USA, Canada
Zone 2 Europe, South Africa, Japan, Middle East (including Egypt)
Zone 3 South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan
Zone 4 Australia, New Zealand, Latin America
Zone 5 Africa, India, Asia
Zone 6 China

DVD types: In addition to regional format variation, DVD formats can vary in other ways. Common formats are DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW and DVD Ram. Not all DVD players can handle all the formats - so it is worth checking before you buy which format it is that you will most likely use.

Multi-disc players: If you're going to use your DVD player and associated sound system to play your CDs think about a multi-disc player. Sometimes referred to as DVD Jukeboxes they can store multiple DVDs or CDs. 30 discs is a reasonably common limit.

DVD audio: Any DVD player will play CDs but some will play newer types of audio disc (DVD-Audio or SA-CD) which offer better sound quality than a standard CD. Only more expensive DVD players and hi-fi equipment are compatible with these discs.

Digital surround sound: Utilises the information on the DVD to provide sound quality almost equal to cinema sound. This is accomplished by converting the audio track into signals for each individual speaker - usually five speakers and one sub-woofer used for low frequency effect. Dolby Digital and DTS are two popular surround sound formats.

MP3 playback: Some DVD players, especially portable ones, can play MP3 digital music files and other audio files from inserted media.

VCD playback: A popular movie format in Asia, Video CDs or VCDs are cheaper and lower quality than DVDs. They are stored on standard CDs, which means they do not have room for extra features. Many DVD players also play VCD Playback movies.

Display photos: Certain DVD players can also display digital photographs on your TV. These must be stored on a compatible disc.

CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R and DVD-RW discs: Some DVD Players can play audio and video content created on your computer. This can be played from recordable CDs or DVDs on CD-R, CD+RW, DVD-R and DVD-RW discs. Not all DVD Players can perform this function.

Bookmarking: Bookmarks allow you to store favourite scenes or places in a disc. More expensive players allow you to store bookmarks for several discs and remember them even if the disc is removed.

Resume: If you are going to view your discs repeatedly, the ability to resume where you left off can save a lot of searching. Multi-disc resume means that the player will remember where to start on up to 30 discs.

Connections
The connections between your DVD player and your TV and stereo can make a huge difference to the quality of the sound and picture. These are the connections to think about.

Component video: DVDs are encoded in component video (VHS and laser discs are composite video). If you have a TV with component video input (likely to be a new TV of the high-definition digital kind), buy a DVD Player with component video output. Then connect the player and the TV with a three-wire component video cable. Before buying a player with component video output make sure you understand the subtle difference between component progressive and component interlaced (and that your choice is compatible with your TV). The former will give the best results.

S-video connection: This is the next best thing to component video and is an option on DVD Players that do not have component output and TVs that do not have component input. You may need a separate cable for this but the picture difference should be worth it.

SCART leads: A common form of connection used in the UK is the SCART lead. This handles both audio and video signals. SCART connections are common on DVD players and newer TVs. Gold plated SCART leads give a better connection. A SCART connection will give you a better picture than S-Video and is close to component standard. SCART cables are not usually included with players. Expect to pay around £25.

Analog RCA connections: Available on almost all DVD Players this connection, while not producing results quite as good as others, will give you better pictures than your old VCR and, importantly, will connect DVD players to older televisions that don't have SCART connections.

Audio connectors: DVD players, especially the more expensive models, can have many audio outputs. Outputs can include phono, digital coaxial and digital optical. If you are connecting to a separate hi-fi system this can be a very important feature.

Progressive scan: The newest buzzword is progressive scan in the DVD Player market and while more expensive players include it, it can't actually be used unless you have a digital TV. With it your picture can be refreshed 60 times per second which makes for a sharper, almost flicker free picture and is better than anything delivered by the alternative interlaced scanning method.

DVD recorders can be used with a digital TV to record your favourite programs and films as well as to watch pre-recorded items. Great picture and sound quality, but the recording facility makes them more expensive than players and they can also be harder to use than VCRs. The variety of recordable formats available can also add to the confusion.

DVD Home Cinema Systems:
To get the best audio experience the DVD home cinema concept is becoming more widespread. It uses surround sound and additional noise enhancements to put you at the centre of the entertainment. The choice is between buying an off-the shelf package or putting together a combination yourself of DVD player, amplifier/decoder and speakers, specifically tailored to suit you. The amplifier is sometimes contained in the sub-woofer.

Portable DVD:
Perhaps the ultimate in mobile entertainment, a portable DVD can be heavy on battery use but is ideal for a long journey where you need to while away the hours.

DVD Drives:
Add a DVD drive to your desktop PC or your laptop and you could be looking at the latest movies without the need for a TV at all.

DVD/Video Combinations:
Combining two technologies means that while you can watch the latest films on DVD you can also record using the video element of the combo. And you will still be able to view all those old tapes! (source: kelkoo website, 22/11/2008)

Boris' the Man

Boris gives support
In October 2008, the London Assembly passed a motion backing the Mayor's support for an amnesty and calling on the Government to bring this about.
The following month, London's Conservative mayor, Boris Johnson, gave an interview to Channel 4 news endorsing the idea in terms almost identical to the Strangers into Citizens proposals.
He said the expulsion of London's 400,000 illegal immigrants was "just not going to happen". While he is powerless to change national policy on the issue, Johnson said he wanted to "lead the debate" by commissioning a study into the feasibility of the idea. He said he favoured the idea of an "earned amnesty", whereby after a period of about five years individuals could "show their commitment to this society and to this economy" to earn the right to stay. "We want to look in detail at what the economic impact of such an earned amnesty system would be," he said.
The Government dismissed the idea as "naive" and "irresponsible". (source: wikipedia)

I say: 'Unleash your potential!!!'

"IT'S TIME TO EXPLOIT OUR FULL POTENTIAL & UNEARTH (UNLOCK) HIDDEN TALENTS"

Unajua tena marafiki wengine siyo wazuri.

Jamaa zake hawakuamini ikabidi wakimbilie hospitali kujua kilichomuua.

Wasalaam.

'Functionalist' defined

Sociology
Functionalism focuses on the structure and workings of society. Functionalists see society as made up of inter-dependent sections which work together to fulfill the functions necessary for the survival of society as a whole. People are socialized into roles and behaviors which fulfill the needs of society.
Functionalists believe that behavior in society is structural. They believe that rules and regulations help organize relationships between members of society. Values provide general guidelines for behavior in terms of roles and norms. These institutions of society such as the family, the economy, the educational and political systems, are major aspects of the social structure. Institutions are made up of interconnected roles or inter-related norms. For example, inter-connected roles in the institution of the family are of wife, mother, husband, father, son and daughter.

Architecture
Functionalism, in architecture, is the principle that architects should design a building based on the purpose of that building.

The place of functionalism in building can be traced back to the Vitruvian triad, where 'utilitas' (variously translated as 'commodity', 'convenience', or 'utility') stands alongside 'venustas' (beauty) and 'firmitas' (firmness) as one of three classic goals of architecture.
Functionalist views were typical of some gothic revival architects, in particular Augustus Welby Pugin wrote that «there should be no features about a building which are not necessary for convenience, construction, or propriety» and «all ornament should consist of enrichment of the essential construction of the building».

Chicago architect Louis Sullivan popularized the phrase 'form ever follows function' to capture his belief that a building's size, massing, spatial grammar and other characteristics should be driven solely by the function of the building. The implication is that if the functional aspects are satisfied, architectural beauty would naturally and necessarily follow.
'Form follows function' expresses a significant and enduring idea. Sullivan's protege Frank Lloyd Wright is also cited as an exemplar of functional design.

The roots of modern architecture lie in the work of the Franco-Swiss architect Le Corbusier and the German architect Mies van der Rohe. Both were functionalists at least to the extent that their buildings were radical simplifications of previous styles. Le Corbusier famously said "a house is a machine for living in"; his 1923 book Vers une architecture was, and still is, very influential, and his early built work such as the Villa Savoye in Poissy, France is thought of as prototypically functional.(from wikipedia)

``Mimi siwezi kamwe kuingia tena darasani mpaka nipewe changu.

Wengine wagoma kiujanja

Rukwa waitikia wito kugoma

Mkurugenzi Mbeya: Fedha zimeletwa

Ufisadi mkubwa madai walimu

(SOURCE: Nipashe, 2008-11-18 15:06:48

Half-century for Sir Alex Ferguson

One of the greatest careers in British football history began with a bite 50 years ago today (15 November).

Sir Alex Ferguson made his playing debut for Queens Park FC, Scotland's oldest club but still an amateur team when he made his breakthrough in a game away to Stranraer.

"Queens Park were always competitive, even if they were an amateur team," Sir Alex recalled in his regular Friday press conference.

"They had doctors, teachers and other people with professions in the team but were they namby-pamby players? No, they were tough as nails! Every one of them was very, very competitive, as was the man in charge of us, Jackie Gardiner.

"I didn't do too well in the first half on my debut. Gardiner said to me at half-time, “What the hell's wrong with you?” I told him an opponent had bitten me. He said, “Well bite him back!”

"That was an indication of how we had to be at Queens Park - you didn’t sidestep players, you went through them. But it was a great upbringing - one or two of the older players looked after me when I was a young boy, like making sure I got the bus home at night."

Despite his early potential - Sir Alex scored in his next match - he almost left the game and his native Scotland when a chance to earn good money in his other trade presented itself.

"In those early years you’re never quite sure which direction you’re going to go in. When I was 21, I almost emigrated to Canada, where I had family. I was a qualified tool-maker and that was a well-paid trade in Canada at the time. But things changed and that’s fate." (source: www.manutd.com)

Overnight rate

The overnight rate is generally the rate that large banks use to borrow and lend from one another on the interbank market. In some countries (for example, Canada), the overnight rate may be the rate targeted by the central bank to influence monetary policy. In most countries, the central bank is also a participant on the overnight lending market, and will lend or borrow money to some group of banks.

There may be a published overnight rate that represents an average of the rates at which banks lend to each other; certain types of overnight operations may be limited to qualified banks. The precise name of the overnight rate will vary from country to country.

Background
Throughout the course of a day, banks will transfer money to each other, to foreign banks, to large clients, and other counterparties on behalf of clients or on its own account. At the end of each working day, a bank may have a surplus or shortage of funds. Banks that have surplus funds may lend them to or deposit them with other banks, who borrow from them. The overnight rate is the amount paid to the bank lending the funds.

Banks will also choose to borrow or lend for longer periods of time, depending on their projected needs and opportunities to use money elsewhere.

The overnight rates are fixed every month and at different point of time each month by different countries.

Measure of liquidity
Overnight rates are a measure of the liquidity prevailing in the economy. In tight liquidity conditions, overnight rates shoot up. Overnight rates may also shoot up due to lack of confidence amongst banks, as was observed in the liquidity crunch of 2008.

In order to measure liquidity situation, the spread between risk-free rates and overnight rates is considered. The TED spread is a liquidity indicator for US, which is the difference between LIBOR and Treasury bills. (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Happy Birthday Whoopi Goldberg (53)

Whoopi Goldberg (born Caryn Elaine Johnson; November 13, 1955) is an American actress, comedienne, and television host.

She is one of only thirteen people who have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony Award, including Daytime Emmy Awards. In 1990, she became the second African American female performer after Hattie McDaniel to win an Academy Award for acting. She has won two Golden Globe Awards and two Saturn Awards for her performances in Star Trek Generations and Ghost.

Biography
Early life
Goldberg was born Caryn Elaine Johnson in New York City and raised in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood, the daughter of Emma (née Harris), a nurse and teacher, and Robert James Johnson, a clergyman. Goldberg's mother was a "stern, strong and wise woman" who raised her as a single mother after Goldberg's father had left the family. Her stage name was taken from whoopee cushion, which she initially used as her stage name; she stated that "If you get a little gassy, you've got to let it go. So people used to say to me, 'You're like a whoopee cushion.' And that's where the name came from." She chose the surname "Goldberg" after Jewish ancestors of hers who bore the surname, having said that "Goldberg's a part of my family somewhere." In 1991, she referred to herself as a "Jewish-Catholic girl from New York"; she has also stated that her mother is Jewish and referred to herself as a "Jewish-American Princess". A DNA test, broadcast in the 2006 PBS documentary African American Lives, traced most of her ancestry to the Papel and Bayote people of modern-day Guinea-Bissau. Her racial admixture test revealed her genetic makeup to be 92 percent sub-Saharan African and 8 percent European.

In an anecdote told by Nichelle Nichols in the documentary film Trekkies, a young Goldberg was watching Star Trek, and upon seeing Nichols' character Uhura, exclaimed, "Momma! There's a black lady on TV and she ain't no maid!" This spawned life-long fandom of Star Trek for Goldberg, who would eventually achieve a recurring guest-starring role in 1987's Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Career
Goldberg's on-screen talent first emerged in 1981-82 in Citizen: I'm Not Losing My Mind, I'm Giving It Away, an avant-garde ensemble feature by San Francisco filmmaker William Farley. Goldberg created The Spook Show, a one-woman show devised of different character monologues, in 1983. Director Mike Nichols was instantly impressed and offered to bring the show to Broadway. The self-titled show ran from October 24, 1984 to March 10, 1985 for a total of 156 sold-out performances. While on Broadway, Goldberg's performance caught the eye of director Steven Spielberg. He was about to direct the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Color Purple, written by Alice Walker. Having read the novel, she was ecstatic at being offered a lead role in her first motion picture. Goldberg received compliments on her acting from Spielberg, Walker, and music consultant Quincy Jones. The Color Purple was released in the late autumn of 1985, and was a critical and commercial success. It was later nominated for 11 Academy Awards including a nomination for Goldberg as Best Actress. The movie did not win any of its Academy Award nominations, but Goldberg won the Golden Globe Award.

Personal life
At age 18, during her marriage to 26-year-old Alvin Martin, Goldberg gave birth to their first and only child Alexandrea c.1973. After Goldberg's divorce from Martin, she moved to California and helped found the San Diego Repertory Company, where she used the stage name Whoopi Cushion. Before succeeding as an actress, she worked as a bank teller, a bricklayer, and a mortuary cosmetologist. Goldberg later went on to marry David Claessen, but they divorced after two years, in 1988. Whoopi later married Lyle Trachtenberg, but their marriage lasted only one year. In 2000, Whoopi broke up with her boyfriend of five years, Frank Langella.

Goldberg has three grandchildren through her daughter, Alexandrea Martin. The eldest, named Amarah Skye, born on November 13, 1989, shares Goldberg's birthday.

In 1993, Goldberg was briefly involved with Ted Danson, her co-star in Made in America. Danson was married at the time and caring for his wife, who had survived a stroke while giving birth in 1979. There was controversy following a comedy routine at a Friars' Club roast in which Danson performed in blackface. Goldberg wrote the script.

Goldberg was involved in controversy in the summer of 2004 when, at a fundraiser for John Kerry at Radio City Music Hall in New York, Goldberg made a sexual joke about President George W. Bush, by waving a bottle of wine, pointing toward her vagina and saying: "We should keep Bush where he belongs, and not in the White House." Slim-Fast, the biggest company in US health shake market, took exception to these comments made by Goldberg and dropped her from their current ad campaign.

..............
Goldberg is one of few to win an Oscar, a Grammy, a Tony, and an Emmy. She has starred in over 150 films, and during a period in the 1990s, Whoopi was the highest-paid actress of all time. Her humanitarian efforts include working for Comic Relief, recently reuniting with Billy Crystal and Robin Williams for the 20th Anniversary of Comic Relief.

In February 2002, Goldberg sent her Oscar statuette from Ghost to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to be cleaned and replated. During this time, the statuette was taken from its shipping container, and later retrieved by the shipping company, UPS.
She is currently working on creating the Stanton Award, awarded to best comedic performance. (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Mbunge Richard Nyaulawa afariki dunia

JK aongoza mamia kumuaga Nyaulawa

'Simplicity' and 'Openness' defined!

Simplicity is the property, condition, or quality of being simple or un-combined. It often denotes beauty, purity or clarity. Simple things are usually easier to explain and understand than complicated ones. Simplicity can mean freedom from hardship, effort or confusion. It may also refer to a simple living lifestyle.

Openness is a philosophy that is being used as the basis of how various groups and organizations operate. It is a relatively new term to describe this general way of doing things.
It is typified by communal management, and open access to the information or material resources needed for projects; openness to contributions from a diverse range of users/producers/contributors, flat hierarchies, and a fluid organisational structure. (source: wikipedia)

Remembrance Day (2)

Remembrance Dayalso known as Poppy Day, Armistice Day (the event it commemorates) or Veterans Day is a day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War. It is observed on 11 November to recall the end of World War I on that date in 1918. (Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice.) The day was specifically dedicated by King George V, on 7 November 1919, to the observance of members of the armed forces who were killed during war; this was possibly done upon the suggestion of Edward George Honey to Wellesley Tudor Pole, who established two ceremonial periods of remembrance based on events in 1917. Remembrance Sunday

In the United Kingdom, Remembrance Sunday is the second Sunday of November, the Sunday nearest to 11 November (Remembrance Day), which is the anniversary of the end of the hostilities of the First World War at 11 a.m. in 1918.

In the United Kingdom, Remembrance Sunday is marked by ceremonies at local war memorials in most cities, towns and villages, attended by civic dignitaries, ex-servicemen and women (principally members of the Royal British Legion), members of local armed forces regular and reserve units (Royal Navy and Royal Naval Reserve, Royal Marines and Royal Marines Reserve, Army and Territorial Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Auxiliary Air Force), youth organisations (e.g. Scouts and Guides), and military cadet forces (Air cadets, Army cadets and Sea cadets). Wreaths of poppies are laid on the memorials and two-minutes' silence is held at 11 a.m. (source: Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Jobs in UK for non-EU migrants!

Jobs list for non-EU immigrants

The list of jobs open to immigrants from outside the EU has been published. Jobs list for non-EU immigrants Ministers accepted the recommendations of an expert panel about which jobs there were not enough British workers to fill.

Social workers, which were not recommended by the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC), were added to the list by ministers.

The shortage occupation list includes civil and chemical engineers, some construction managers, geologists, and senior nurses.

The Home Office said there was some evidence about social workers the MAC had not examined and social worker posts were being added to the list as a precaution.

Skilled chefs and senior care workers, new additions to the list, are to be reviewed.

Maths and science teachers are on the list but the MAC will re-examine the evidence for all teaching jobs by March next year.

Town planners, which are not on the list, will also be kept under review.

Immigration minister Phil Woolas said the new list meant there would be 200,000 fewer jobs available to migrants.

Ian Johnston, chief executive of the British Association of Social Workers welcomed the decision. He said 12% of social worker posts were unfilled across the country. "I think the decision reflects the fact that it remains relatively difficult to recruit social workers especially for jobs working with children and families." (source: UK news, yahoo website)
