Rafa, any advise to Fillipe?

Last time when Chelsea visited Old Trafford Rafael Benitez gave advice to his 'friend' Louis Fillipe Scolari (Chelsea's Manager) to be aware of the situation at OT.

Now this Sunday Chelsea visits Anfield, I am waiting to hear more advise to Scolari from his old friend, Rafa!

Best wishes to both of you because you are good friends, and enjoy the party at Anfield!

Hopefully Rafa will give a generous '3 points' advise to LFS!

'Uzawa' waingia Uingereza!

'UK jobs for UK workers'!

Kalagabaho!

Makaka na Madada

Salaam kutoka kwangu, Mosonga R.

The Beeb gets MOTD rights for 3 more years

BBC has won a contract to show Premier League highlights from 2010 for 3 years. The 'Beeb' tendered £173m. to get a contract.

This is good news for all fans of the Match of the Day on Saturday and Sunday nights! We will continue to see more of the Alans (Hansen and Shearer), Lawrensen, Lee Dixon et al. as well the likes of Garry Linneker and Adrian Chiles!

Many football fans do watch MOTD because they are unable to follow live broadcasts during the day time, so their best opportunity is to watch the highs and lows of all Premier League actions in the weekends by tuning in on Saturdays and Sundays where hosts Linneker and Chiles respectively lead the pannel of experts to discuss the matches' goals, near misses, saves, attacking and defending prowess and/or blunders, referees and controverses.

MOTD is shown on BBC One tv on Sat night 10:10 GMT and repeated on Sunday morning before 09:00am GMT and MOTD 2 is shown on Sunday at 10:00pm GMT on BBC2 tv.

January awards are ours

This month's manager and player of the month should be coming from Manchester United.
We came back from on fourth place and we kept winning every game until now and our plyers have been brilliant!
I hope Sir Alex deserves to be manager of the month and Ryan Giggs or Dimitar Berbatov should be player of the month (in Premier League).

We need victories

Manchester United's run this month was incredible. We still have one game against Everton to finish the month with 100% record in the premiership.
Although we are winning the media has started piling oressure to Man Utd to keep up their record for further cleansheets! My call to Sir Alex and his boys is that try to play down this 'record' thing of cleansheets, what the team needs from now onwards is victories. If we can win 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0 that's fine but we would also be fine with 2-1, 3-2 or 4-2. My point is, if we think too much of keeping cleansheets it could affect us when we concede a goal or goals.

Townsend and Parry's debut

TalkSport Radio has new presenters in 10:00 to 01:00pm show from Tuesday January 27, 2009. Andy Townsend and Mike 'Poki' Parry will be hosting the new program in this time slot. The pair have another show on Saturdays between 08:00am and 12:00pm.
Originally this time slot was under John Gaunt and later Ian Collins who are no longer being heard, sometimes George G. covers the show.
The show is very good especially when Mike Pary is presenting his views on certain points -his arguments are very interesting. Today he said when he went to Old Jerusalem town he saw Jesus Christ! Alan Brazil and Ronny Iran didn't believe him and they played a song 'you need a help' to finish off their morning show as a response to Mike Parry's revelations!

Maisha juu

mkate (farmhouse) 56p (85p)
maziwa (lita 2.72 sawa na 2 Pints) 99p (£1.49)
vitunguu 29p (69p)
Peanuts smooth 450g, 79p (95p)
ndizi mbivu 1kg., 45p-66p (85p-97p)

Siku hizi mambo yamebadilika.

Tujali misaada tuipatayo

Mungu akubariki mwanangu Tezzi.

'it's puzzling why men in relationships yearn for the single life and single men yearn to be in a relationship'
-result!, d/mirror pg.60, wed.12/11/2008

Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship is a system of training a new generation of practitioners of a skill. Apprentices (or in early modern usage "prentices") or protégés build their careers from apprenticeships. Most of their training is done on the job while working for an employer who helps the apprentices learn their trade, in exchange for their continuing labour for an agreed period after they become skilled. Theoretical education may also be involved, informally via the workplace and/or by attending vocational schools while still being paid by the employer.

Development
A medieval baker with his apprentice. The Bodleian Library, Oxford. The system of apprenticeship first developed in the later Middle Ages and came to be supervised by craft guilds and town governments. A master craftsman was entitled to employ young people as an inexpensive form of labor in exchange for providing formal training in the craft. Most apprentices were males, but female apprentices were found in a number of crafts associated with embroidery, silk-weaving etc. Apprentices were young (usually about fourteen to twenty-one years of age), married and would live in the master craftsman's household. Most apprentices aspired to becoming master craftsmen themselves on completion of their contract (usually a term of seven years), but some would spend time as a journeyman and a significant proportion would never acquire their own workshop.

Subsequently governmental regulation and the licensing of polytechnics and vocational education formalised and bureaucratised the details of apprenticeship.

Modern analogs
The modern concept of an internship is similar to an apprenticeship. Universities still use apprenticeship schemes in their production of scholars: bachelors are promoted to masters and then produce a thesis under the oversight of a supervisor before the corporate body of the university recognises the achievement of the standard of a doctorate. Another view of this system is of graduate students in the role of apprentices, post-docs as journeymen, and professors as masters.

Also similar to apprenticeships are the professional development arrangements for new graduates in the professions of accountancy and the law a British example was training contracts known as 'articles of clerkship'. The learning curve in modern professional service firms, such as law firms or accountancies, generally resembles the traditional master-apprentice model: the newcomer to the firm is assigned to one or several more experienced colleagues (ideally partners in the firm) and learns his skills on the job.

Classmates: Yvonne Ketang'enyi

It is not always easy to explain how happy someone feels when he/she meets with old friends, especially after missing each other for more than 12 years. This is what have happened to me today. I lost words after seeing a message from one old friend, a classmate and a sister because we are both ex-MAUSO* members!

I am very glad to hear a word from our very own Yvonne after all those years since we parted each other at Ardhi Institute.

A few years ago I heard that she went to study in China. But now she in US, happily married and pursuing further studies in Architecture (This is GOOD NEWS)! Tell us Yvonne, how is it like there at Uni (CUA, School of Architecture an Planning) -no more Tee-squares and A0 drawing boards? Do you remember those traditional baskets (vikapu) we used to carry containing drawing equipment, do you still use them there?

Congratulations and thank you very much. I wish you all the best.

Send my regards to Shemeji na Watoto.

De Laet joins Man United from Stoke City

Belgian joins Reds
United have confirmed the signing of defender Ritchie De Laet from Stoke City.
The 20 year-old Belgian joined Stoke from Royal Antwerp in August 2007 but he did not feature for the Potters' first team, only being named as a substitute on a few occasions. In October 2008, he joined non-league Wrexham on loan. He made three appearances in the Blue Square Premier, only for his stint to be cut short by surgery on a double hernia.
Now fit again, De Laet will hope to make an impression at United, initially in the reserves.
The Manchester Senior Cup tie at Stockport County on Monday 19 January could offer De Laet his first chance of match action for the Reds.

``Justice must be done and seen to be done`` akimaanisha kuwa haki lazima itendeke na ionekane dhahiri kuwa imetendeka
.

Standards and experience in bldg design

I still remember how professional we used to be during those College years when it came to dealing with any type of design studio project(s). We knew that every project is unique -which requires unique solution(s)- and we were taught that there are no standards in architecture, simply because because every project is unique.

So in every design project we used to visit the site(s) in question (Mr A Z Moshi used to say go and listen to the site!). Yes we did go, but in fairness most of us didn't know how to listen to the site! We just took tape measures and few pictures and sketches, as well as study the pedestrian and vehicular traffic, services like power lines, water mains etc. Then we went back to the classroom ... Maybe that's what Mr Moshi meant! On the drawing board we started to gather the information colleted in the site. That alone carried 'bango' no.1 for the presentations. This was called site analysis.

Bango no.2 was known as concept development which carried few sketches which gave clue on how your design proposal could look like. Then followed another bango for spatial analysis (anthropometrics and space requirements for activities related to the proposed project).

After this stage follows the rough plans and elevations etc in sketchy form. When the studio-masters are pleased whith your general outlay, the you can get greenlight to move into the next crucial stages like function analysis and then things like circulation within the building(s) etc.

But sorry, this is not what I am intending to say here!

What I want to say is that through my experience of living in quite few places in this world, I came to realise that some of our ideas during those days at college were not the best -for practical reasons! For example in designing a town house or maisonettes the best type of stairs to use is one-flight stairs. This saves space and is convenient for the movement of furniture. Rectractable stairs (because they are space saving) are preferrable to access the storage areas e.g. attic.

Also when dealing with residential houses especially maisonettes, bathrooms are placed best if they are in the first floor (for convenience reasons. Most or all of the bedrooms are placed upstairs so occupants need bathroom(s) close to their bedrooms especially in the night times. You can imagine in the night climbing-down stairs going to the loo half-sleeping!!)

The other idea we used to propose was the use of attic* as the extra bedroom or office! In reality attics are very uncomfortable places to live in because they are usually very cold or hot -depending on which climate you live. I would propose attics to be used as storage spaces.

So, folks, that is my experience in life as far as building design is concerned. Experiences give you a bit more taste of the reality than solely dwelling on what text books say in order to solve a design problem!

I know how thirsty you are to see few sketches, photos etc. to support my explanations. This would be fulfilled in future if my plans go ahead smoothly.

Happy New Year to you all!

Note:
Always remember to keep one person happy ... 'your client!'

EDISON: The Great Thinker

"Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration."

Thomas Alva Edison (February 11, 1847 – October 18, 1931) was an American inventor and businessman who developed many devices that greatly influenced life around the world, including the phonograph and the long-lasting, practical electric light bulb. Dubbed "The Wizard of Menlo Park" by a newspaper reporter, he was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of mass production and large teamwork to the process of invention, and therefore is often credited with the creation of the first industrial research laboratory.

Edison is considered one of the most prolific inventors in history, holding 1,093 U.S. patents in his name, as well as many patents in the United Kingdom, France and Germany. He is credited with numerous inventions that contributed to mass communication and, in particular, telecommunications. His advanced work in these fields was an outgrowth of his early career as a telegraph operator. Edison originated the concept and implementation of electric-power generation and distribution to homes, businesses, and factories - a crucial development in the modern industrialized world. His first power plant was on Manhattan Island, New York.

"I don’t think I have to convince anyone to join Manchester United, the best team in the world last year. Everyone wants to be part of this squad."
-Nemanja Vidic, Man United's defender talking to manutd.com on 02/01/2009

Vidic's 'brothers' in the theatre of dreams!

Serbians to join United
United is pleased to announce it has reached an agreement with Partizan Belgrade and the players for Zoran Tosic and Adem Ljajic to join the club.

Tosic, 21, will sign with immediate effect and wear the no.14 shirt, while an agreement is in place for 17-year-old striker Ljajic to remain with Partizan for the rest of 2009.

A press conference will be held next week, once the necessary paperwork has been filed with the relevant football authorities.

Sir Alex Ferguson gave his reaction to the signings at his Friday press conference and also confirmed United will not be doing any more transfer business in January.

"Tosic joins us immediately, his work permit is through; Ljajic will join us next year, " revealed the boss. "Tosic is a young wide left player. We like wide players at this club.

"We've been watching him for over a year. Our scout in that area has been telling us about him for quite a while. He's now a regular in the Serbian national team. Hopefully he does well.

"We'll give him time. He's not played since December 10 so he'll need time to adjust and get used to the tempo of our game and also the training.

"That's the end of the transfer business for Manchester United this season. There definitely won't be anything else in January."

Alitoa matukio matatu makubwa:
1. Rais mpya wa Marekani Obama 'atachemsha'. Mtangazaji huyo alitumia maneno 'Obama will disappoint ...' hasa kuhusu utekelezaji wa ahadi alizotoa ktk kampeni.

2. Hakuna uchaguzi mkuu Uingereza. Waziri mkuu, Gordon Brown, ambae ndie mwenye uwezo wa kutangaza uchaguzi mkuu hawezi kufanya hivyo kwa maana anahofia kushindwa ktk uchaguzi na hivyo anaonelea ni bora amalize kabisa muda wake wa kukaa ofisini hadi mwakani.

3. Gazeti moja kubwa litapotea mitaani/madukani.

1. Rais Obama wa US ata'disappoint ktk ahadi zake
2. gazeti moja kubwa (the independent????) litakufa -halina wateja kimatangazo, hivyo mapato yatokanayo na matangazo yatapungua au kukauka kabisa!!
3. hakuna uchaguzi mkuu Uingereza mwaka huu hadi mwakaniiii!

Postcodes: Alternative views

This is the personal view from the reader.
............................................................

The complexity of the UK postcode system has sent ... The complexity of the UK postcode system has sent the Irish Government and its advisors around in circles for 4 years now trying to devise a Post Code for Ireland that fills all the gaps and ticks all the boxes. Nothing has been agreed yet and probably will not for quite some time. However, there are those who say that for sorting letters a PostCode is no longer required as OCR and a good address database will do the job. However, the more significant requirement for a Code nowadays is for navigation and routing (Logistics and Emergency services etc)

The fact that with postal deregulation in Europe including in Ireland commenicing in 2009, mail delivery will be done by courier type opeartions with a larger need for routing than actual sorting also increases the need for a dedicated code. It is for this reason that a navigation Code has now been published in Ireland - referred to as PON Codes;- they express a location geographically to an accuracy of +/- 6 meters and can be determined by anyone for anywhere..... see http://www.irishpostcodes.ie for more details. PON Codes have been tested by Garmin and GPS Ireland intends releasing a full version of the system early in 2009.
The PON Code system can already be used in Northern Ireland - eliminating the problems arising with the Royal Mail system in Fermanagh as mentioned in your article. PON Codes can be customised for any country.
