Wivu ktk Mapenzi!!!

Yule mama alijua yuko chumba gani. Kitanda kilikuwa chini ya dirisha. Basi yule mama alikesha pale kwenye dirisha na walipoanza mambo yao, yule mama kafungua dirisha na kuwamwagia chupa ya tindi kali. Kwa vile walikuwa uchi wote waliungua vibaya!
Wivu jamani!
Nilivyokuwa nasoma Tabora Girls kuna dada fulani aliuliwa na mume wake. Sitamsahau yule dada. Alikuwa anakaa National Housing na mume wake, ndoa yao bado changa. Dada mwenyewe alikuwa mzuri kweli kweli. Alikuwa mwembamba mwenye kipara. Kuna wenzangu walimuwa wanamvizia yule baba.
DUH! Nilijikuta naona kizunguzungu, Siwezi kusema, hasira zimejaa na nikaanza kulia! Watu waliniuliza nalia nini, nikashindwa kusema! Baadaye nikasema basi Mungu hakupanga niwe naye. Yaani nikikumbuka nacheka.

Mwalimu J K Nyerere: Tribute

When we speak of great Africans and role models, an image of a smiling Nelson Mandela with those troubled but noble, yet kind shining eyes, comes to mind. Nelson Mandela is the chap that everyone wants to take a photo with. Twenty six years in jail for sticking his tongue at racial hatred, then stepping out of jail, waving a hand, smiling, saluting the world, forgiving…

Before Nelson Mandela there was Julius Kambarage Nyerere. But who is Nyerere?
Many do not recognise the name. Known in his time as Mwalimu, which means teacher in Swahili, Nyerere was born in 1922 and while still at Makerere University, Uganda, at the tender age of 21, started an association for the improvement of Africans. Those were colonial days. Two years passed. He wrote an essay: “The Freedom of Women.”His father, a tribal chief, had 22 wives. It was part of the “idea of moving towards freedom theoretically,” he told Dr. Ikaweba Bunting of the Internationalist magazine in one of his last major interviews in 1999.

On July 7th, 1954, Mwalimu Nyerere formed TANU which led Tanzania to independence. Here the idea of using Kiswahili as a unifying language was hatched and fundamental in keeping the peace as there are more than hundred tribes and languages in Tanzania.
“The only tribalism that exists in Tanzania is teasing each other.” Nyerere would say in one of his speeches, decades later.
Between all this he found time to translate two works of William Shakespeare (Julius Caesar and Merchants of Venice) to Kiswahili. Then came 1963...Significant moment.Nyerere, Haile Sellasie of Ethiopia and Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana formed Organisation of African Unity (nowadays known as the African Union) in Addis Ababa. Those were tough times. Two years before, Congolese leader Patrice Lumumba had been murdered. A recent book by Ludo de Witte “Assassination of Lumumba” (Verso, 2003) claims that the then USA, President Eisenhower, sanctioned the CIA to hatch a plot to get rid of the Prime Minister.Soon the same sinister forces toupled Ghana’s Nkrumah in the infamous military coup of 1966. He died, sadly, in exile a few years after, while Emperor Haile Sellasie was assassinated in a 1975 coup.Nyerere was the only survivor…

In 1965 he forged the Union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar islands to form Tanzania.
1967 the Arusha Declaration was made official policy thus turning Tanzania towards self reliance. It’s major aim was to improve the lives of the poor peasants who form more than 80% of the working population through an ideology of “Ujamaa” or familyhood.
By 1979, Nyerere led Tanzanian army to topple dictator Idi Amin of Uganda. Amin’s terror had ended the lives of almost half a million of his own people and forced multitudes into exile. During the short war Nyerere’s own son, a pilot, was amongst the casualties.

Mwalimu Nyerere resigned in 1985 the second leader in Africa (other was Leopold Senghor of Senegal) to relinquish power willingly. He had wanted to do so much earlier but was requested to carry on by the ruling CCM party because of the economic hardships following Idi Amin's war post- 1980.

Nyerere is revered not just for his national contribution but what he did internationally. Between 1963 till the time of Mandela’s freedom from prison, in 1990, Tanzania was home to many refugees from neighbouring countries still under colonial rule or civil trouble. To this day, she still is. UN sources, quoted by New African magazine in 2002 claimed half a million refugees camping peacefully in Tanzania. Speaking at a business dinner in London on May 2005, the former Ambassador of Tanzania to the UK, Mr. Hassan Kibello said there were at least 1.2 million refugees in Tanzania.

After resigning Mwalimu had many respected roles, one being chair of the South to South Commission. That is why he visited Rio De Janeiro. This was an especially difficult time for Brazilians. A corrupt President Fernando Collor was in power. The following year Collor was to be impeached.Mwalimu insisted on relations between Southern countries, by showing us a book that had just come out. The publication, “Challenge to South”, he promised, would soon be in various languages.“Brazil is a South country. She should not only co-operate with the United Sates (which is wealthy) but take a leading position within Latin America; and also other parts developing countries, Angola, India, Mozambique, China…There is very little trade between South countries…”

During the question and answer session someone wondered how come Tanzania under Mwalimu had only one party? And what did he think of the recent surge of “multi-parties” in Africa?Mwalimu explained:“Democracy is not a bottle of Coca-Cola which you can import. Democracy should develop according to that particular country. I never went to a country, saw many parties and assumed that it is democratic. You cannot define democracy purely in terms of multi-partist parties…”Speaking immediately, Secretary Abdeas Nascimento, added, that “there are thirty parties in Brazil, but no democracy!”A big applause was heard from the audience

Few moments after the speeches I went over to Mwalimu.
“What are you doing here?” He chuckled. He had not expected to meet any Tanzanian in Brazil. At close range Mwalimu was like a regular guy, no airs, extremely warm, relaxed, very welcoming, no arrogance, no intimidation. They call such individuals charismatic. Meeting them is like winning the lottery. You feel refreshed for a long, long time.As we chatted local Brazilian photographer, Vantoen Pereira, snapped pictures.

Eight years went by.I was part of a long queue of mourners paying tribute to Mwalimu Nyerere’s coffin at London’s Westminster Cathedral. He had died of leukaemia aged 77.The mainstream press in the West did not say much. It made me wonder why do Africa’s bad guys get so much publicity while the good ones are unmentioned? There were brief shots from CNN and SKY plus a reasonable long narration by Euro-News television.“He was untainted by corruption…the only African leader…” something of the sort.
A unique decent report was by Channel Four’s Jon Snow, who remembered interviewing Mwalimu back in the 1970’s at the height of the Southern Rhodesian (now Zimbabwe) conflict… “He tried to help his own people,” Snow recalled , “a rarity amongst African peers.”
I kept wondering, meantime, if Nyerere’s demise had been reported in the Brazilian media; and if so, by who. I also asked myself… how many from that day at Estaçio in June 1991, Rio De Janeiro, were aware of this remarkable man’s passing?

Heinze's departure: Reds examine rivals' conduct

Reds examine rivals' conduct
Sir Alex Ferguson vows United will "not let Liverpool off" after opening an investigation into the Anfield club's conduct in the Gabriel Heinze affair. The Merseysiders' drawn-out attempt to sign Heinze ended this week when a three-man Premier League arbitration panel ruled against the player's claim that a letter signed by United chief executive David Gill permitted him to sign for Liverpool."We are looking at Liverpool's whole role in this," said Sir Alex on Friday. "We are not letting them off with it. That is what we are investigating." Asked whether it was a case of 'tapping up' Heinze, Sir Alex responded: "David Gill is working on it at the moment. We will get to the bottom of it and see how it comes out."Sir Alex insists he has no issue with Heinze, who eventually signed for Real Madrid."I've got no axe to grind with Gaby whatsoever. The issue without question is how much he listened to us rather than his agent. But his agent will make his few bob."Sir Alex also responded to two points made by Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez. The latter lambasted the Premier League panel's decision but Sir Alex said, "There was never any chance of winning that case, so Rafa clearly did not read the Premier League rules."Benitez also bemoaned Liverpool's share of early Saturday kick-offs. "It is disappointing stuff," said Sir Alex. "He talks about the fixtures... he should have seen our fixtures over the last two or three seasons."

Bila shaka wahusika wataweza kunisaidia ktk kuondoa hili dukuduku.

Heinze v Man Utd: Reds pleased with outcome

Reds pleased with Heinze outcome
Gabriel Heinze has lost his case to force through a move to Liverpool, after a Premier League arbitration panel ruled in United's favour on Tuesday. The 29-year-old left-back claimed that he should be allowed to move to Anfield - a transfer that has not been made since Phil Chisnal left for Liverpool in 1964 - because of a letter his advisors received from United which enabled him to join another club if his asking price was met.Heinze took legal advice after United rejected an offer from Liverpool for the Argentine international, but as the Premier League ruled on Tuesday, the letter was "unambiguous in that it envisages only an international transfer".The Premier League announced on Tuesday afternoon: "The Premier League panel has heard submissions of evidence from both parties and has ruled to dismiss the player's case."A United spokesman told ManUtd.com: "The Club is pleased that the panel has endorsed its case."In a two-day hearing on Monday and Tuesday, the panel concluded that "the nature and intention of the disputed 13 June letter, especially when taken in context of verbal discussions and Manchester United's transfer policy, was unambiguous in that it envisages only an international transfer."Furthermore the hearing finds the letter constitutes an 'agreement to agree', and did not create an obligation or binding agreement for the club to transfer the player to any particular club."In other words the letter is evidence of an intention to negotiate, both between the parties and with potential buying clubs, and not evidence of any intention to create legal relations."

Other previous hosts have included Richard Littlejohn (1997-2002), Dominik Diamond, Adrian Chiles (2001-2006) and Jonathan Pearce (2002-2003).

6-0-6 Online Forum
In addition to the phone-in programme, there is also an online version of 6-0-6 in the form of an Internet message board, although in June 2006 the site was forced to close due to the large amount of web traffic and forum threads.
This lead to the BBC changing the way that the 606 messageboards work, which was controversal and lead to some members boycotting the 606 messageboards altogether.
Now Football, Cricket, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Snooker, Motorsport and all other Sports have messageboards embedded into 606.

Shirikisho A/Mashariki: Rais akubaliana nasi

Msomi awafagilia JK, Museven
21 Aug 2007By Haji Mbaruku, Jijini

Shirikisho `No`
21 Aug 2007By Novatus Makunga, PST Arusha,
Ntisezerana Paul.

EAC leaders freeze fast-tracking plan
21 Aug 2007By Adam Ihucha, Arusha
The Heads of the East African Community partner States have resolved to freeze the idea of fast-tracking the envisaged regional political federation, insisting that the gradual integration process should move along the lines of the original `roadmap`. In a joint communiqué read on their behalf by EAC Secretary General Juma Mwapachu at the end of their one-day Summit at a tourist lodge 30 km from here yesterday, the leaders unanimously agreed that the five nations’ economic, political and other links should run in phases until the ultimate goal of having a political union is achieved. ``There is a need to mobilise and deepen sensitisation on political integration and stimulate greater political will to promote deeper economic integration and lock-in gains achieved from economic cooperation,`` reads part of the communiqué from the Summit, held at the Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge. President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda chaired the Summit, which was also attended by host President Jakaya Kikwete, President Mwai Kibaki of Kenya, President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Burundi Second Vice President Gabriel Ntisezerana. The five leaders were also unanimous on the need to move expeditiously towards establishing a common market and a monetary union by 2012 before seeing how to have the envisaged political federation. With their common stand coming against the backdrop of qualified support from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania for the idea of fast-tracking the setting up of the federation, they cautioned that the roadmap idea should not be undermined. According to Mwapachu, 97 per cent of respondents in Tanzania, 76 per cent in Uganda and 70 in Kenya want political federation but have warned against its being rushed. The Summit directed that the governments of newly admitted EAC member States Burundi and Rwanda undertake national consultations to gauge the people`s views on the establishment of an EA political federation. They also ordered the two countries to speed up the process of integrating fully in the EAC Customs Union. The EAC customs union began by setting common external tariffs for goods entering the region in January 2005 and is due to move towards a common market and a monetary union modelled on the European Union by 2012. It was also agreed at yesterday’s Summit that the EAC secretariat explore the possibility of achieving the threshold of the Customs union earlier, before developing a strategic framework for fast-tracking the establishment of a common market and a monetary union for consideration by the regional Council of Ministers and the next Summit. The Summit further ordered the secretariat to quickly propose an East African Industrial and Investment strategy supported by an institutional decision-making authority, with a view to promoting equitable industrial development in the region. With regard to the way the EAC should take in negotiating an EAC economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with European Union as a bloc, it was resolved that modalities of doing so gainfully be devised. The Summit also endorsed amendments to some provisions in the treaty establishing the EAC, as a way of facilitating the effective participation of the two new partner states in the Community`s various organs and institutions. Summit chairman Museveni said the history of humankind proved that nothing can be achieved without integration, adding that it was high time Africa faced the reality. Economic analysts predict that businesspersons and investors in EAC member states will be whetting their appetite following the recent admission of Burundi and Rwanda into the Community. Up for grabs will be an expanded region of 1.9 million square kilometers with a combined population of over 110 million people and a combined Gross Domestic Product of over US$41 billion. The two countries’ accession was formalised during the EAC’s Fifth Extraordinary Summit in Kampala and means that, like founding member States Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda have since this July 1 been participating in the Community’s deliberations not as observers but as fully-fledged members. This came about after the Presidents of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania signed Treaties of Accession to the eight-year-old bloc in respect of the two new member States. “The accession of Rwanda and Burundi to the East African Community treaty following their admission into the Community last November completes a missing link for our region,” noted President Kibaki, who was also the outgoing chairman of the EAC Head of State Summit. “The two countries are geographically, culturally and economically connected to this region, and we are therefore pleased to work closely with them in furthering the objectives of our community,” he pointed out, as he handed over the chair to President Museveni after the Summit. The admission of Rwanda and Burundi into the EAC is one of the most memorable moments for EAC since President Museveni and former presidents Ali Hassan Mwinyi of Tanzania and Daniel arap Moi of Kenya reached a landmark decision in 1993 to renew regional integration by launching the East African Cooperation. In 1999 President Museveni and former presidents Benjamin Mkapa of Tanzania and Moi signed the Treaty that transformed the East African Co-operation into the new-look East African Community, the first one having collapsed under political and other differences 30 years ago.

Shirikisho Afrika Mashariki kutoharakishwa

Kujiajiri: Napenda watu wenye ubunifu kimaisha

20 Aug 2007By Mariam Samiji, PST Dodoma

'Avoid luxury, save and invest back home'

It is a good idea to save and invest back home.
People living abroad do contribute a lot to our nation's economy by creating jobs to people at home. They simply do that by creating small projects which do not need big capital to establish and run. Also those with big investments capital do make their mark.
People might be thinking that it takes millions of shillings to make something happen but in my own view, anything however small it is, can make a big difference!
Any project initiated at home will create a job opportunity to at least one person, who will end up supporting respective families and the society as a whole.
VP's call has come at a right time and should be supported by actions.

Shein: Avoid luxury, save and invest back home
18 Aug 2007By Lusekelo Philemon
The Vice President, Dr Ali Mohamed Shein, has underlined the need for Tanzanians living abroad to make savings for investment back home. He said the government has created excellent conditions for all those intending to do so, adding that the security of such investments was guaranteed. Speaking at the official reopening of the CRDB Bank`s Vijana Branch in Dar es Salaam on Thursday, the Vice President said for years Tanzanians living outside the country were reluctant to remit their money back home “on the lame excuse of risks`. `I can assure you that the government has long devised fail-safe security mechanisms in financial institutions throughout the country and therefore call upon our fellow Tanzanians abroad to refrain from that negative attitude of old. They should come in with their money, assured that it will be safe,` he stated, adding that the investments would assist the families of those remitting the money as well as the country’s social and economic development. Dr Shein also commended the bank for introducing what is known as Tanzanite Account specifically for foreign-based Tanzanians, saying the move had made the international transfer of their money far easier than was previously the case. `Before this account was launched, Tanzanians abroad could not transfer their earnings home because the financial policies of some countries barred them from doing so. The introduction of this special account will help them to introduce several developmental projects in the country,` he said. The Vice President used the opportunity to call on Tanzanians living abroad to make enough savings from their earnings there for the good of the country’s economy. `They should refrain from living lavishly and instead save for the benefit of their families and the country at large because nation building calls for collective responsibility (by all Tanzanians),` he said. He also challenged financial institutions in the country to find ways of reducing interest rates on loans extended to small entrepreneurs, saying: `There is a need for financial institutions to seriously embark on the agricultural sector because that is the backbone of our economy. The institutions should plan to provide small farmers and other entrepreneurs with soft-term loans,` he added. For his part, CRBD Managing Director Charles Kimei said the understanding and cooperation between the bank, its customers and the larger public had contributed immensely to the bank`s `enviable achievements over the years it has been in business`. `We have been trying hard to provide our customers with quality services and are now one of the leading banks in Africa in terms of extending loans to farmers,` he said. Dr Kimei confirmed that security in financial institutions in the country has improved much in recent years, noting that “the development has enhanced our customers’ trust and confidence in us”.

Mbagala: Habari mbalimbali

17 Aug 2007By Emmanuel Lengwa, Jijini
Zitto Kabwe atauelezea umma kilichomsibu Bungeni.
``Barua zote hizo kila moja inataja sehemu tofauti ambayo maandamano yataanzia, huku zikiwa zimesainiwa na mtu mmoja…sasa mimi siwaelewi,`` amesema Kamishna Tibaigana. Amesema moja ya barua hizo inasema maandamano yataanzia Mnazi Mmoja, nyingine inasema yataanzia Ubungo na nyingine haisemi mahali yatakapoanzia,`` akafafanua.
Kufuatia kujikanganya huko, Kamishna Tibaigana amesema amemuandikia barua mtu aliyesaini barua hizo ili aende ofisini kwake wajadiliane kabla ya kutoa uamuzi wa kuwapa kibali hicho.
``Nimemuita Bw.

George Galloway response to 18 days suspension, 17/07/2007
"Once more and yet again I have been cleared of taking a single penny or in any way personally benefiting from the former Iraqi regime through the Oil for Food programme or any other means. The Commissioner's report states that unequivocally no less than six times. The Commissioner further states that it would be a "travesty" to describe me as a "paid mouth-piece" and that my actions on Iraq stemmed from "deep conviction." This is therefore an argument about the funding of a political campaign to lift non-military sanctions on Iraq, which killed one million people, and to stop the rush to a war which has cost the lives of hundreds of thousands more. The Committee appear utterly oblivious to the grotesque irony of a pro-sanctions and pro-war Committee of a pro-sanctions and pro-war Parliament passing judgment on the work of their opponents, especially in the light of the bloody march of events in Iraq since this inquiry began four years ago. They describe that as questioning their integrity and bringing Parliament into disrepute. The House would do well to honestly calibrate exactly how its reputation on all matters concerning the war in Iraq stands with the public before deciding who precisely has brought it into disrepute. After a four year inquiry - costing a fortune in public funds - the report asks me to apologise for not registering consistently the Mariam Appeal I established (the Commissioner concedes that I did so, but randomly) and for using House of Commons resources allocated to me to campaign against the policies of those now sitting in judgment on me. The Committee of MPs acknowledges that "had these been the only matters before us, we would have confined ourselves to seeking an apology to the House." However, in a surprisingly thin-skinned rejoinder, the MPs complain that because I questioned their impartiality and made trenchant criticisms of evidence and witnesses (which, incidentally, they don’t attempt to refute in most cases) I am to be suspended for 18 days. I reiterate that the Commissioner is right to state that he found no evidence that I benefited personally in any way from any Iraqi monies and moreover I never asked any of the Mariam Appeal's donors - the King of Saudi Arabia, the Emir of UAE, or Fawaz Zureikat, the chairman of the Appeal - from where they earned the wealth from which they made donations to a campaign to end sanctions and war." Big brother Africa

Mbongo atia aibu
15 Aug 2007By Amour Hassan

1. Uchaguzi Mkuu wa Zanzibar wa Oktoba 30, 2005 na taathira zake;
2. Usawa na haki katika kuendesha siasa;
3. Masuala ya utawala ya Serikali ya Mapinduzi Zanzibar;
Yapo mambo mawili matatu ambayo bado maelewano hayajafikiwa.
Wahenga walisema: “Penye nia pana njia”.

Prevention of Corruption and Combating Act of 2007: Recommendations

Corruption law formally challenged
13 Aug 2007By Guardian Reporter
Media stakeholders have presented to the Parliamentary Committee on Social Welfare and Community Development their reservations on the weakness of a clause in the Prevention of Corruption and Combating Act of 2007, which they say infringes on freedom of the press. The stakeholders want section 37 (1) of the Act, which prevents the media or individual persons from reporting alleged offences under investigation by the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau, to be struck off. They have presented their recommendations under the umbrella of the Coalition for Advocacy for Freedom of Information and Expression, which includes the Media Council of Tanzania, Media Owners Association, Tanzania Media Women Association and Legal and Human Right Centre. Others are Tanzania Gender Network Programme, TANLET, MISA-TAN, Nola and Tanganyika Law Society The recommendations were submitted in Dodoma last week to House Committee Chairperson Jenista Mhagama. In their recommendations, the stakeholders said implementation of the Act would largely affect journalists who were the main stakeholders. The Act doesn`t describe procedures that are to be followed to make officials of the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau responsible when they announce or publish cases or names of people under investigations. `It will therefore be very difficult for any person, including journalists, to know that a particular issue is under investigation,` they added. They further stated that ordinary people would be denied the right to give information and it would be difficult for PCCB itself to get information on people who were engaged in corrupt practices for the fear that at the end of the day, the informants would be taken to task. `The Act also prohibits Members of Parliament from discussing people they suspect have been involved in corruption. This is a bad indicator to good governance, built in democracy and human rights,` they said. They further said the way it is at the moment, the Act tries to conceal people allegedly involved in corruption. `It is true that, a person involved in corruption scandal is not a good person to Tanzanians. He is supposed to be known to the public so that the government should take immediate action to deal with that person,` the media stakeholders added in their recommendations. The media stakeholders said that instead of restricting the media from reporting people under investigation, the law should make it an offence for PCCB officials to disclose the identity of a person being investigated. They said that the role of the media was vital. There was thus no need for unnecessary limitations. They retaliated that the war against corruption could only succeed if there was collective effort between the government and the public `Implementation of this Act is an impediment to PCCB efforts to scale down corruption,` they said. Early this month, media stakeholders who met in Dar es Salaam decried the section, saying it defeated the whole concept of investigative journalism. The Prevention and Combating of Corruption Act of 2007 became operational last month.

Tanzania: General Info

The United Republic of Tanzania is located in Eastern Africa between longitude 29o and 41o East, Latitude 1o and 12o South.
The United Republic of Tanzania was formed out of the union of two sovereign states namely Tanganyika and Zanzibar. Tanganyika became a sovereign state on 9th December, 1961 and became a Republic the following year. Zanzibar became independent on 10th December, 1963 and the People's Republic of Zanzibar was established after the revolution of 12th January, 1964. The two sovereign republics formed the United Republic of Tanzania on 26th April, 1964. However, the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania is a unitary republic consisting of the Union Government and the Zanzibar Revolutionary Government.
Tanzania is the biggest (land area) among the East African countries (i.e. Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania). Tanzania has a spectacular landscape of mainly three physiographic regions namely the Islands and the coastal plains to the east; the inland saucer-shaped plateau; and the highlands. The Great Rift Valley that runs from north east of Africa through central Tanzania is another landmark that adds to the scenic view of the country. The country has the largest concentration of wild animals. It also has pristine sandy beaches and Africa’s highest and snow-capped mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro. Tanzania is home to the world famous National Parks and Game Reserves of: Ngorongoro Crater, Selous Game Reserve, Gombe Stream, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Mikumi, Arusha, Ruaha, Saadani, Udzungwa Mountains, and Mkomazi Game Reserve. Other Game Reserves include: Amani, Kigosi, Lukwika-Lumesule, Maswa, Monduli Mountains, Msangesi and Ugala.
Dar es Salaam is the commercial capital and major sea port for Tanzania Mainland and it serves neighbouring land-locked countries of Malawi, Zambia, Burundi, Rwanda, and Uganda, as well as Eastern DRC. Other sea ports include Zanzibar, Tanga, and Mtwara. Because of its geographical and locational advantage, Dar es Salaam Port presents itself as the gateway into East and Central Africa. Furthermore, this renders Tanzania as a logical investment destination for investors.
Year 2005 General Elections: Since attaining political independence in 1961, Tanzania has held without fail Presidential and Parliamentary Elections (general elections) after every 5 year period. Following results from the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections held on 14th December, 2005, the 4th President of Tanzania, H.E. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete was sworn into office on 21st December, 2005 for a five-year term of office. Since 1985, Tanzania has followed a two term limit for the Presidency. President Kikwete’s campaign slogan was “New Vigour, New Zeal, and New Speed: Promoting Better Life for all Tanzanians”. The majority of Tanzanians have been inspired by this and have rallied strongly behind the President. The country enjoys political stability and all former Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Prime Ministers live in Tanzania and are accorded respect. On 25th June, 2006 President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete was elected Chairman of the ruling political party (CCM) by its General Congress.
Economic Policy Stance: The Government of Tanzania under the leadership of HE President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete (popularly referred to as JK) is committed to the pursuit of sound, consistent and predictable macro-economic policies with low inflation. The policy stance is one of building on the foundations and successes of the 3rd Phase Government (November 1995 - December 2005) and scaling-up implementation and policy targeting more effectively and efficiently with “New Vigour, New Zeal, and New Speed”. Promotion of good governance, adherence to the rule of law, promotion of private sector development and opening-up new areas with high economic potential are some of the key issues of the 4th Phase Government. Expansion of investments, job creation, export expansion, value addition chains and scaling-up on human capital development are consequent and complementary actions within the policy stance.
One of the key areas of policy focus is promotion of sustained and shared economic growth. The 4th Phase Government is committed to pursuing pro-investment and pro-growth policies. Moreover, the Government is committed to promotion of public-private sector partnership and in this regard, the public and private sectors meet under the umbrella of the Tanzania National Business Council (TNBC), a forum of policy dialogue and consultation between the public and private sectors. Academia, research institutions, NGOs, CSOs and others, are also engaged in dialogue via a number of other forums such as the Public Expenditure Review (PER) designed to promote wider participation in policy discussions. Tanzania has a vibrant national consultative process that cements national unity and social cohesiveness, which ultimately contribute to promoting peace, security and stability, attributes that are important for a conducive investment climate. With such attributes, coupled with its vast natural resurces base, geographical and locational advantage, a large domestic market and a labour force, Tanzania is an ideal investment destination. We welcome FDIs, we welcome tourists and we also welcome joint ventures and public-private partnerships.

Yanga yatinga fainali Tusker

Yanga yatinga fainali Tusker
